LOOKING BACK AT 2019 AND GETTING JAZZED UP FOR 2020

Thank you for all your support of KJazz in 2019!  Because of you, we had a great year of on-air programming, live music, and educational endeavors.

Here’s a quick recap of 2019:

On-Air Music Programming: Whether it was new music from up-and-coming jazz and blues artists, as well as CSULB alumni such as Maria Schafer and our KJazz scholars, to remastered and
re-released music from legends such as Erroll Garner, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Stan Getz, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Charlie Parker, Bill Evans, Dizzy Gillespie, Jimmy Smith, Lester Young, Oscar Peterson, and Wes Montgomery to previously unreleased material from Nat King Cole, Stan Getz and more, music brought us so much joy and we hope it enriched your days as well.

Live Music: Your generous support throughout the year enabled us to sponsor concerts that featured both musical legends and up-and-coming performers, including the first ever Jazz Tracks at Union Station last April, our Summer Benefit Concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the Subaru Summer Jazz Nights Series at Hollywood & Highland. We also were proud to present the KJazz Blues Bash at the Ebell Theatre, our new KJazz mobile concerts outside of public libraries around Los Angeles, and our Jingle Jazz Concert at the El Rey Theatre. Again, it’s thanks to you that we were able to continue our mission of working to promote and preserve this important American art form with live music in the community.

Education: This is one subject which continued to be an important focus for us in 2019.  In large part due to your support, we were delighted to help promote the Los Angeles Jazz Society’s Jazz in Schools educational program, which will be happening again this month with a concert sponsored by KJazz at Hughes Elementary School. Also important is the continuation of our four KJazz scholarships and paid student internships, where we spent time this past year training our interns on different aspects of work in the radio business and in the field of fundraising.  Our cultural trips to Spain and Portugal last September and Vienna, Prague and Berlin in November also included a focus on education. And, as always, we have continued to incorporate education through our regular on-air programming, special arts reports and specialty shows.

New for 2020:

As we look to the year ahead, one of our immediate goals is to make your KJazz membership benefits easier to access and even more rewarding.  Toward that end, we are excited to announce that you can now access your membership account online, giving you the ability to make updates as needed to your account, view your giving history, and select from free, bonus gifts.  In fact, we have several gifts available to all members who sign up for online access to their account. Please setup your online account and select your free gift at My KJazz.  If you need any assistance setting up your account or with any aspect of your membership, please contact us at (310) 478-5061.

Lastly, as we start this new decade with you by our side, we look forward to continuing our work together to inspire the next generation of jazz musicians and fans through our programming, free concerts, scholarships and internships.  We are excited to share and celebrate the beauty of the musical art form of jazz with many generations to come.

Yours in jazz and blues,
