Calling all jazz fans – as well as lovers of food, wine, art and history – for the 2019 KJazz Floating Jazz Fest to Portugal and Spain! Join KJazz hosts Bubba Jackson & Jose Rizo and fellow KJazz listeners for a joyful and toe tapping adventure.

This exclusive experience begins in Lisbon, where you'll be immersed in Portugal's rich cultural heritage. The fun continues as you travel north to Porto. Savor traditional Portuguese cuisine in a seaside café and lose yourself in the cobblestone streets of the medieval center before boarding the first-class, five anchor MS Gil Eanes for a fabulous seven night jazz cruise highlighting Portugal's extraordinary cultural heritage: wine, cuisine, history and architecture. Cruising east up the Douro river among quaint villages and rolling hills lined with lush vineyards, we may even catch the vintners at their grape harvest.

Bubba Jackson
KJazz on air host

Bubba Jackson was born in Harlem, New York. As a radio personality and Program Director he has worked as on air host at many of the top jazz stations around the country. The Los Angeles Times Calendar section states "One of the best things about drive-time in L.A. is Bubba Jackson."Bubba has been a concert producer, promoter, talent coordinator and master of ceremonies. His festival experience includes the Prince Hall Shriners' Concert in Los Angeles, New Orleans and St. Louis, The Millennium Music Festival (Los Angeles), the Doheny Blues Festival, Big Time Blues Festival, the Central Avenue Jazz Festival and many others. Bubba Jackson is well-know and well-liked as an award winning radio and television personality, seasoned concert producer, skilled researcher, with exceptional organizational skills.

Jose Rizo
KJazz on air host

Jose Rizo was born in Guadalajara, Mexico and raised in Oxnard, California. He played trumpet in high school, but it was not until he was a student at U.C. Santa Barbara that he developed his passion for jazz. In the late 70's, Jose was the founder of "Radio Chicano", a student and community broadcasting organization based on the Santa Barbara campus at KCSB, where he served as program director for two years. Rizo be- gan hosting "Jazz on the Latin Side" on KLON (now KJazz) in early 1990. He was intricately involved on KLON's "Latin Jazz Club Caravans" and served as a member of the Gram- my's Screening committee for Latin Jazz. He has been the artistic director of the Luckman Fine Arts Latin Jazz Concert Series and involved in the "Central Avenue Jazz Festival" since its inception.

Franck Amsallem
Jazz Artist and Programmer

Algerian-born, Franck grew up in Nice, France. He studied in the US at Berklee College of Music and Manhattan School of Music. In 2002, Franck returned to France and settled in Paris. He has performed in countless jazz festivals around the world and has received high praise from the critics for his numerous recordings, both piano and vocal. Franck has composed pieces for big band and for string and chamber orchestra.

Matthew Brumley
Earthbound Expeditions

Matthew Brumley is the co-founder of Earthbound Expeditions and has been leading and creating adventures worldwide for 25 plus years. After completing his undergraduate studies at the universities of Copenhagen and Moscow, he went on to attend the graduate program at the London School of economics. He has lived in Copenhagen, Paris, London, Tel Aviv and San Jose, Costa Rica. Listen to Matthew's travel segment Going Places which is aired weekly on KNKX – NPR.

Your Jazz Home: MS Gil Eanes

Entirely reserved for globetrotting public radio jazz and wine enthusiasts the MS GIL EANES was launched in April 2015 and sails exclusively on Portugal's Douro River. The ship offers guests a tranquil atmosphere in which to relax and enjoy the picturesque panoramas of the region.
