Digging Roots Concert

DESCRIPTION
For over a decade, DIGGING ROOTS have traveled the world with their joyful and loving message on the bedrock sounds of blues, soul, and rock n’ roll.

About ZHAWENIM

Co-produced by JUNO Award winner producer Hill Kourkoutis, DIGGING ROOTS’ fourth album, ZHAWENIM is the culmination of eight years of work. The album expresses their relationships to the land, both personal and communal in a single message: the revolutionary power of love.

The bluesy SHE CALLS ME speaks to memories, longing for the smells and sounds of childhood, while rippling ballad, and SWEETWATER celebrates the transformational power of water. Immediately calling to deepest instinctual senses with its hypnotic intro, TALL GRASS questions who is truly free in this consumerism world.

Their first foray onto commercial airwaves, the energetic SKODEN is a call for action to fight climate change. SKODEN is a rez slang word that calls for action: ‘let’s go then --- ‘sgo then’.

THE HEALER is a chorus of power and hope that honors the places and people in DIGGING ROOTS’ world.
The song begins with author Richard Wagamese words and builds on a chorus of voices featuring many JUNO Award winners including Serena Ryder, Kinnie Starr, Shakura S’Aida).
The provocative AK-47 expresses the need to radically transform hatred and bigotry with the power of love. Simply put, it’s a song about shooting bullets of love.

Immediately after its release, ZHAWENIM climbed the Canadian and U.S. charts.
