DESCRIPTION Vera's Heartbeat and Casa Arjona proudly present Brazilian guitarist, composer and singer Denise Reis at Casa Arjona on Saturday, April 13. She will be joined by Mika Mutti (Sergio Mendes, Mariana de Moraes) on keys and Lúcio Vieira (Gilberto Gil, Maria Bethania, Dominguinhos) on drums.

Denise Reis is an acclaimed Brazilian singer, songwriter and guitarist who strives to bring the harmony, warmth and joy embodied by Brazilian culture to the world. She covers a broad range of styles, from Popular Brazilian Music (MPB) to World Music and Jazz. Denise amazes and delights audiences with her warm artistic expression and exquisite musicality full of emotion, technique, and sophistication. Her voice sails through complex and textured rhythm patterns seemingly effortlessly.
She has performed in concert in Senegal, Ukraine, Venezuela, Portugal, Slovenia, Canada, and Israel. She frequently tours with the world-renowned composer Yoni Rechter and has composed and performed for His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who gave her a standing ovation. Currently based in New York, she is a regular at Birdland and frequently performed at Caffe Vivaldi.

Reis was born in Belo Horizonte, and began studying guitar at age 10. She has recorded two albums: Chá de Hortelã com Caviar (Mint Tea and Caviar) with featured guitarist Guinga, as well as Zé Nogueira and Luciana Rabello as special guests. Her album Alfândega debuted many of her own original compositions.
