IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU!
April 21, 2016 by Helen Borgers

YOU could win a trip to Montreal, Canada, for the 37th edition of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal!  That’s the Montreal International Jazz Festival!  Officially the largest jazz festival in the world, according to the Guinness Book of World Records!

Frankly, I couldn't imagine what it would be like.  They say the streets are full of jazz! That there is music coming from everywhere! Traditional jazz! Mainstream jazz! Cutting-edge jazz! Hybrid-jazz!  MUSIC OF ALL SORTS!

So I decided to see for myself. I did some research, saw and heard some incredible music recorded live at the festival, and just had to share it! And in the clip above, you can see a lot of the city, too, and...WOW!

Here below is part of a performance by Chick Corea in 2004 with his Akoustic Band (John Patitucci on bass, Dave Weckl on drums). Chick also played the very first festival in 1980. And he is on the line-up for this year with Christian McBride and Brian Blade!

Gregory Porter returns to Montreal this year. Check out this interview with performance clips from 2013 at Montreal:

And, another veteran will be returning this year...Wynton Marsalis with his Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra! Here's a clip from 2013 of the Orchestra playing Thelonious Monk:

But it's not just about established artists.  There will be a lot of "up-and-coming" musicians, as they call them.  Joey Alexander is on this year's lineup.  So is Kamasi Washington!

Actually, trying to enumerate the participants is not possible. Over 3,000 artists are drawn from 30 countries or more each year! And, once you get there, you can wander the city from noon to midnight and stop in at as many of the 450 free concerts as you can handle!  It's Jazz Heaven!

LET ME URGE YOU TO GO TO OUR ON-LINE MEMBERSHIP LINK AND BECOME A MEMBER DURING OUR JAM CELEBRATION!  Your TAX-DEDUCTIBLE donation of $50 or more to KJAZZ will automatically* enter you for a chance to win a dream trip for two to this year's Montreal International Jazz Festival!  From June 28th through July 2nd!

The sweepstakes prize includes:

-       roundtrip airfare for two

-       4 nights hotel accommodations at the Hyatt Regency Montreal

-       2 pairs of tickets to 2 concerts

-       and Festival Merchandise

(More information about the Festival is available at www.montrealjazzfest.com)

REMEMBER:  YOU MUST ENTER BEFORE MIDNIGHT ON APRIL 30th, 2016 or you will miss out on the JAM Grand Prize Sweepstakes!

The odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries, but that number is only the folks who enter during Jazz Appreciation Month. So, the number of people in the pool is nowhere near what it is for, say, the California Lotto.  Actual people -- jazz fans just like you -- actually win our sweepstakes! And, in the process, we all are keeping jazz on the radio at FM88.1 and streaming on the internet at JazzandBlues.org!

So, make that donation TODAY, then click your heels together three times and chant, "There's no place like Montreal." And it could happen to YOU!
