Amed Torrecilla at Arts Garage Aug 25
DESCRIPTION
August 25 at 8: Amed Torrecilla brings his MIXTURINC to Arts Garage. MIXTURINC is a musical project where the musicians act as a brotherhood with live flamenco-jazz and Afro-Cuban rhythms with classical music influences; all under the concept and direction of Torrecilla, who has lived among the most authentic flamenco and jazz artists throughout his stay in Madrid.

Having been fed all this musical wealth, Torrecilla has found that now is the right time to merge these genres, and has retained the freshness of novelty that departs from the obvious and delves into the root of every genre, keeping in mind the latest trends in European and international festivals.

This project was nominated for Cubadisco awards in 2013 and met with the approval of the foreign press and national and international radio, in addition to very positive reviews of experts such as Gian Franco Grilli, Italy and Rafa Bassi Labarrera, Colombia and the United States.

Amed Torrecilla has recently relocated to the United States. This has allowed him the opportunity to participate in all kinds of music scenarios and become affiliated with the most sought-after musicians of the area to continue the tradition of making elegant, interesting music that proposes a harmonic and percussive richness with an authentic folk flavor.

Arts Garage is located at 94 NE 2nd Ave in Delray Beach. Tickets are $20-$30-$35 at artsgarage.org or 561-450-6357. BRING YOUR OWN ... WHATEVER! The theater boasts cabaret-style table seating, where patrons can bring their own food and drinks, including alcohol. Music courtesy of KCC Productions.

The Kiki Sanchez Latin Jazz Ensemble at Arts Garage Sept 9
DESCRIPTION
September 9 at 8 PM: Among the new generation of young Afro-Peruvian Jazz musicians that are emerging on the national Jazz scene is pianist Kiki Sanchez. Born in Lima Peru, Sanchez began playing piano at age 11. Later he moved to Miami, Florida, where he continued studying piano as well as cultivating a deep love for American Jazz. His musical journey can be heard on his debut CD entitled “Dreams.” By today’s standards, “Dreams” is enveloped in a smooth Latin Jazz format with a perfect balance of Afro-Peruvian rhythm and Jazz harmonies. Sanchez's musical interpretation is resounding, leaving the listener with admiration and much anticipation for greater things to come from a musician of such high caliber.

Kiki Sanchez has produced an instructional DVD called “The Real Latin Piano and the introduction to Afro-Peruvian Rhythms”; in it you’ll find essential musical knowledge that accentuates the building blocks of Latin music, as well as offering a fresh introspective view on various Afro-Peruvian rhythms as applied to Jazz.

With all these great musical things happening in Kiki’s life, it is no doubt that greater things are still to come for this inspiring Jazz musician. Kiki’s recent release, “Two Worlds” has been well-received, as have his three prior CD’s.

Arts Garage is located at 94 NE 2nd Ave in Delray Beach. Tickets are $30-$40-$45 at artsgarage.org or 561-450-6357. BRING YOUR OWN ... WHATEVER! The theater boasts cabaret-style table seating, where patrons can bring their own food and drinks, including alcohol. Music courtesy of KCC Productions.

Tito Puente Jr at Littman Theater NMB FREE Sept 15
DESCRIPTION
Join us for a FREE evening concert with Tito Puente Jr. and his Latin Jazz Ensemble in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month on Friday, September 15, 2017. Doors open at 7 PM and the concert begins at 8 PM.

The comparison is inevitable. How could it be otherwise? Tito Puente Jr. carries his father with him – imprinted on his physical being and locked in his soul. It's in his looks, his joy, his music. No doubt, every time Tito Jr. walks on stage – he walks in his father's footsteps.

He dances in celebration, throws his head back in pure joy and lights up the room with that oh-so-familiar smile. Tito Jr. is on a passionate mission. The younger Puente is determined to nurture the musical legacy left by his father. He refuses to let it become a distant memory; "He was just too vibrant, too exciting. There was magic in the music my father made. It made people happy, all over the world. My goal is to keep it alive, and in doing so, expose it to a whole new generation."

Tito Jr. has found captive audiences who echo his passion. Crowds once lured to a venue by the father's magic have returned to enjoy the son – participating once again in the high voltage celebration that takes place on stage.

Tito Jr. reveres the magnificent, lasting impact his father had on our musical lives. Audiences the world over agree there is nothing so perfect, pure or passionate than a tribute to a father from his son. "People who don't know anything about Latin music know my father and people always, always smile when they say his name," he confides. That is a very special gift, and it inspires and motivates me to bring his music to the world."

There will be a cash bar and Latin food for sale. The Littman Theater is at 17011 NE 19th Ave in North Miami Beach. Tickets are FREE! Tickets are available at Parks and Rec or at the door; for more information, please call (305)948-2957 weekdays 8-5. Music courtesy of KCC Productions.

Tumbledown House

Tumbledown House, instrumental Jazz
September 16 | 8 p.m. | Tickets $24 + fees

San Francisco songwriting deviants, Tumbledown House, have never been easy to describe. Modern speakeasy, saloon jazz, parlor pop, and Tom Waits in a cocktail dress are some of the terms used, but none of these successfully convey the band's incomparable ability to fuse vintage sounds and themes from yesteryear with the modern instrumentation, refreshingly original compositions, and raw energy that we expect from today's performers.

Will Calhoun Celebrates Elvin Jones at Blues Alley
DESCRIPTION

September 22-23, shows at 8 and 10 PM: Not many artists have the vision and artistic energy to be Grammy winners and contribute to so many genres: jazz, rock, hip-hop, ambient, et al, while concurrently producing, touring, creating new projects, working on films, and continually pushing the envelope. Will Calhoun has this creative vision, and he is doing an extraordinary job keeping music a spiritual and motivating force in his life. Although he’s best known as the hard-driving, groove-oriented drummer for the pioneering rock group Living Colour, Will Calhoun has played in a staggering variety of styles and traditions over the course of his eclectic career. Straight-ahead jazz, fusion, traditional African percussion, funk, hip-hop, and of course hard rock — Calhoun has explored them all, and he traces the roots of all of them to one man: legendary drummer Elvin Jones. This 21st century celebration of the great jazz legend Elvin Jones is filled with passion and heart. Iconic drummer Will Calhoun joins forces with Elvin Jones' musical associates Christian McBride, Carlos McKinney, Antoine Roney and Jan Hammer on this Motéma Music recording.

"Celebrating Elvin Jones is an inspired project, vibrant and emotionally honest, but its greatest success may be that it brings Calhoun's boundless energy to lesser-known gems of the Jones songbook." – DownBeat

Joining Will at Blues Alley will be Gerald Cannon (bass), Antoine Roney (sax), and Daniel Vega (piano.) Tickets are $37.75 (+$5 fee) at bluesalleylive.com. The club is located at 1073 Wisconsin Ave NW; phone (202) 337-4141. Music courtesy of KCC Productions.

Bicentennial Birth of Baha'u'llah
DESCRIPTION
Good afternoon, I hope this message finds you well. The KKJZ Family and your loyal listeners are invited to join in a world-wide celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Birth of Bahá’u’lláh. Bahá’u’lláh—the “Glory of God”—is the Promised One foretold by the Báb and all of the Divine Messengers of the past. Bahá’u’lláh delivered a new Revelation from God to humanity. Thousands of verses, letters and books flowed from His pen. In His Writings, He outlined a framework for the development of a global civilization which takes into account both the spiritual and material dimensions of human life. For this, He endured 40 years of imprisonment, torture and exile.

Please join in Irvine's participation in these global festivities on the evening of October 21, 2017. As Dizzy Gillespie, a member of the Baha'i Faith and a pillar in the jazz community, brought together the influences of Afro-Cuban and Middle Eastern sounds in his music, this celebration is drawing people of all races, creeds, and ethnic backgrounds. We look forward to your response.
